CCA Description :
Canberra Secondary School Symphonic Band (CSSS Band) has been around since the school started. Over the years, the band has grown in strength and quality. To date, we have a total strength of 87 members.
In 2005, the band participated in the Singapore Youth Festival Central Judging for Concert Bands and obtained a Bronze for its first try. In 2006, we participated in the Marching Assessment and obtained a Certificate of Merit while in 2008, we obtained a Certificate of Distinction for the same event. We have taken part in various competitions such as the Standard Chartered Cheering Competition which we obtained the 1 st position (2007) and came in top 3 in the National Drumzout Percussion Competition organised by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2008. We have also been invited to perform during formal events such as the Life Long Learner Awards in 2008. This year, we climbed another step higher by participating in the Singapore International Band Festival 2010 and clinched the Bronze award.
In addition, the band members had the opportunity to participate in band exchanges with other schools, where Bedok South Secondary School and Henderson Secondary School were the gracious host for two different occasions. The band members enjoyed themselves getting to know new friends and exchanging notes with their peers from other schools.
CSSS Band is not only a CCA which teaches its members the fundamentals of instrument playing but also help to develop their leadership skills. Students have opportunities to lead their section and organise activities for the members, ranging from birthday celebrations to band camps to band exchange programmes. We are constantly in the lookout for opportunities to further excel and showcase our abilities.
Current instructor, Mr Rasull, is a man who is passionate about bringing the band to greater heights. Under his guidance, the band members are eager to learn and perform their best.
